Tour de Fleece Redux

First day

Saturday August 29 2020

Fiber:  Merino 2x 4oz = 8 oz 

Colour: Lavender

That's what I got so far.

The dusty rose merino 2 oz is completed, plied, washed.

Still working on the dusty rose merino, I'm very slow this year.

I like the colour, it's very nice and soft.

I hope to get more time to spin a little more.

Finished spinning 2 Oz of yellow merino, and

chain plying.

I'm not used to spin small quantities so I though

chain plying would be fun.

Stage 1

Google will stop supporting Vista....

I just received a notice this morning...

Google won't support Vista or OS for apple this really sucks.

I'm not ready to buy a new computers only to be able to get updates from Google, I'll simply stop using Google. This means I won't be posting on this blog or visiting blogs on this platform.

Thank you very much Google as far as I know Vista is still supported by Microsoft no reason to pull the plug so early.

Wind proof mittens

Winter is here...

It's been here for over a month but I didn't post anything after loosing my cat and I didn't feel really good for over 2 weeks.

It was time to pick up the needles and make something useful ... mittens.

Winter here is quite long and usually very cold and windy, mostly regular mittens don't keep your fingers from freezing.

Using some of my hand spun to make those mittens, pretty easy fair isle design no big deal but this wouldn't be enough to keep my hands warm.

There was a locks sampler that were waiting to get into some action.

It took me few tries and errors to find a good way to secure the locks at last it worked great.

Now I'm the proud owner of real wind proof mittens.

These locks will felt with wear and time making a nice warm and fuzzy lining.

 I'm ready to head out whatever this winter is bringing.

My own version.

First of all when reading the pattern 96 increasing to 120 stitches was looking more than what I would normally do, I didn't want to modified the pattern, I didn't change to larger needles neither.

I have use John Arbon KBN56 for the ribbing and some of my own handspun for the background, leftover bouclé for the sheep with some black cotton.

Here is the resulting hat.

It was nice but way too large so instead of unravel and redo I have opted for felting/shrinking it.

making it thicker and warmer, so I place it in a laundry bag and in the washing machine it went.

Now it fits perfectly.

I was looking at this skein and

though it would make a nice shawl, it's only 100 grams

I did a search on Ravelry and found this pattern:

Mousseux

A nice shawl with a lacy border, fast and easy to knit on the go you can put it down and take 

back exactly where you were at easily.

While knitting all those little holes this made me think of Serge Gaingsbourg and his song

West Coast Colour...

This was my prize from Team Canada 

on the TDF2015.

The colourway name is:   P.M.S.

65% Polwarth, 10% Silk, 25% Yearling Mohair.

It's an absolute soft delight to spin never a dull moment while the colours keep changing and it's keeping you spinning.

This was so much fun to spin.

I have opted for  Navajo plying for this beautiful yarn.

I like this resulting skein, it was a real pleasure working this top.

I would love to buy some more in the future.

I did check the website it's under construction so I guess it would be easier

to contact her directly on Ravelry:   Sheepkeeper.

This top is simply amazing soft and bouncy processed to perfection, no nepps.

It's pure pleasure to spin this fiber.

The natural colours are gorgeous.

The resulting yarn is beautiful.

212 grams, 2 plies, 992 yards of bouncy soft yarn.

This was delight, I can recommend this mill for their great tops, way better than the most well known large companies tops I have spun so far.

Lavender Merino

Ashford

100% Merino Lavender  100 grams

Really soft but I found the fibers were quite irregular on the short side.

Not what I'm used to from Ashford.

 It was a little tricky to spin fine as there was some very short fibers mixed with longer ones,

 after washing the skein I whacked it good to full the fibers, I think it turned out ok.

Made almost 400 yards. The color is nice and it is soft as a baby skin.

I don't know yet what I will do with it yet.... back to the wheel for more spinning.

Christy's Challenge part 2

Of course I couldn't wait long to start knitting the beautiful yarn.

I have picked the same pattern I have knitted last as it was on the list of patterns to choose from.

Dragonfly wings by Boo Knits

It was just a perfect match for my yarn.

I have started it on Friday September 4th as it was a long weekend I knew I could be done quite fast.

It was finished by September 9th.

The blocking went well and with the weather collaboration it was dry in about an hour.

I just love how it turned out, feather light with a nice drape.

It took me a while to post it as my computer was having hiccups now it is fixed, I'm glad to have a geeky son that could help installing the hardware for me and clean the dust bunnies.

Now it runs like new.

Christy's challenge...

While browsing on Ravelry I found this challenge.

I received about 100 grams of beautiful Cotswold locks.

Already washed and ready to card.  I decided to card instead of combing because most of the locks were a little too short and It would have wasted too much and I would have ended up with a very skinny skein.

I turned it into a huge batt.

Started spinning away...

and plied...

Then it went for a colorful bath...

Here is the resulting skein for the contest entry.

I really love how it turned out beautiful and lustrous.

Now I wonder how long I'm going to be able to wait before I start knitting this yarn...it's just so tempting.

Here is my resulting skein,

73 grams, 2 plies, 208 yards.

This was fun to spin, the colors are nice, the poling is good and pleasant to the eye.

It makes me think of the palette from some Monet's paintings.

This yarn is 100% merino, it is dreamy soft the twist is just perfect and the colour is yummy.

I have been looking for a while at a beautiful shawl/wrap from Boo Knits

It was the perfect timing I would be a little short on yarn but in my stash there was some of my handspun merino/silk darker but would work perfectly to make the border.

Lucky there was some pearly pink beads too and I was having enough to complete the project.

Here it is blocked/drying no sun... so I guess the beauty shots will have to wait.

This pattern was a charm, very well written usually I use the charts but this time I just kept going with the written instructions, it looks absolutely gorgeous and it is easy if you know how to use YO to increase and K2tog to decrease, I used a 1mm crochet to place the beads on the stitches easy as pie.

Tour de Fleece finish line...

It was my first TDF

After a difficult first week start it went like a charm.

I really enjoyed the challenge and now I have a lot of yarn to pet and to choose some nice projects to enjoy.

Crossing the finish line and stumbling with that bounty.

This was my last stage, some white english leicester I combed and a little bit of corriedale left over.

Next year I will make sure I have some washed, dyed and ready to spin fleece for this event if I'm participating, it is more rewarding and pleasing to spin something I have prepared, no more bad surprises when it's too late to get something more appropriate to really enjoy spinning that many days and hours.

I have spun two different colorways of your Karaoke and those two tops are the worst I ever bought/encounter, I noticed my seller about it and I’m very disappointed with the answer you gave her, it is shameful when knowing your product is of very bad quality to mix it in a pack, in addition of letting down your sellers to deal with the complaints. I can assure you I’m totally unhappy with your ways to do business and I won’t buy any of your products in the future.

I'm posting it here because I doubt it will be published on their blog and to make clear the person whom sell it to me did received complaints from other customers too.... I'm not alone she offered me some fibers of my choice at her own expense... I refused as she won't be compensated for it, it's not her fault but LOUET's fault.

The fact is the fiber is part of a  pack is not an excuse to hide from the customers that some part of it is badly processed at a mill in China where nobody regularly tested the quality before shipping it to their sellers whom will take the hit is totally unfair.  It's not an honest way to treat sellers and customers.
